STL Wing Guide: St. Louis Wing Deals

I recently received a request from a reader asking me to outline all of the wing deals in St. Louis, so I’ve been compiling a list to help him out, which as it turns out, is not as easy as it sounds.

Back in college, I was used to official “Wing Nights” where restaurants reduced their wing prices down to 25¢ – 45¢ per wing. Here, however, many restaurants simply offer 1/2 price appetizers that include their chicken wings.

Some Advice for Restaurants: If you have good wings and want people to take notice, separate out your chicken wing specials from the rest of your appetizers. It takes too much math and effort to divide your usual wing price in half and then figure out the price per wing or pound for the average person looking to have a few beers and eat some wings. I guarantee you that there are many wing lovers who are not even giving your restaurant a second glance and are favoring restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings, that host an official wing night.

Wings are a food that I’ve always found intriguing. People that really like wings are pretty obsessive about it – like each wing is a work of art to be praised or critiqued on a variety of factors, primarily on how intense the sauce is and how that sauce would rate on the Scoville Heat Scale. For most wing fanatics, the hotter the better seems to be the name of the game. If this sounds like you, let me suggest a great St. Louis based website that specializes in spicy food and hot sauce: Scott Robert’s Web Site.

I’ll be the first to admit that while I enjoy wings, I am definitely no wing connoisseur – it’s a menu item I rarely order for a number of reasons. First, nobody looks good eating a chicken wing. This is a fact. Gnawing away on a bone, your face and hands covered in sauce, leaving the discarded remnants of picked-at bones on your plate – it’s just an all around unattractive and messy dish. I honestly applaud the person who orders wings on a first date and lives to see a second one – you either eat wings better than most, have yourself a keeper, or have yourself a desperate man or woman willing to settle for whatever they can get.

Second, when I order wings, it’s typically due to an official “Wing Night” event, and the wings are usually shared by everyone at the table. This opens up the problem of what type of wings to order. As mentioned, those who are serious about their wings tend to like them not just hot but scorching. I like my wings to have some heat, I’m not really a teriyaki or honey wings kind of girl, but I also like to taste the food I’m eating rather than just a sensation of burning pain.

So, on average, I tend to bypass this dish in favor of other bar food (everybody looks good eating a cheeseburger, I’m pretty sure of it), and I can’t attest to how good or hot most of the wings featured here are, but just because it’s not my food of choice doesn’t mean everyone should miss out

Check out the list after the jump!

  1. French Quarter in Ballwin has $2 Tuesdays. An appetizer order of wings is $2.00. These are big, meaty wings with a great buffalo sauce. Bottles of beer are $2 also.

I will sometimes get a double order – makes a great meal.

  2. Awesome, thanks, adding it to the list!
